Computing

Back

At The Cranbourne Primary School, we aim to prepare our learners for their future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills that will equip them for an ever changing digital world.  Our scheme of work for computing is adapted from the ‘Teach Computing’ curriculum and covers all aspects of the National Curriculum. The curriculum can be broken down into 3 strands: computer science, information technology and digital literacy.

Our early years children are following the Barefoot scheme which has activities based around computational thinking concepts and approaches. They help to teach pupils the necessary problem-solving skills needed for everyday life. They are cross-curricular allowing them to be fitted in with their topics but still teach the concepts of Algorithms, Collaboration, Persevering, Creating, Pattern, Logical reasoning, Tinkering and Abstraction.

A key part of implementing our computing curriculum was to ensure that safety of our pupils is paramount. We take online safety very seriously and aim to give children the necessary skills to keep themselves safe. Children have a right to enjoy childhood, to access safe online spaces and to benefit from all the opportunities that a connected world can bring them, appropriate to their age and stage.

Children build online resilience through the use of the ‘Project Evolve – Education for a Connected World’ framework. The framework aims to support and broaden the provision of online safety education, so that it is empowering, builds resilience and effects positive culture change. E-safety is taught within units and explicitly, following Project Evolve strands.

All children are taught the full curriculum, with adaptations made where required for SEND children. These include, but are not limited to, scaffolding of tasks, changes to the way the children record their learning, and focussing on particular key skills and concepts.
