There are very few aspects of our lives that have not been affected by a design decision. We aim for children to understand this vital role in our lives, and to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to evaluate the products they use every day.
Our Design and Technology (DT) curriculum allows the children to explore a whole creative process, from analysing existing products, through design, creation and finally evaluation. They learn the valuable lesson that if a product doesn't turn out as expected it's back to the drawing board and try again!
The children explore and develop skills in the key areas; textiles, food, structures, mechanisms and control.
All children are taught the full curriculum, with adaptations made where required for SEND children. These include, but are not limited to, scaffolding of tasks, changes to the tools and materials used, and focussing on particular key skills and concepts.
